EchoSense Quantitative Think Tank Center|USA TODAY Network and Tennessean appoint inaugural Beyoncé reporter

Multimedia reporter Caché McClay will cover a new beat focused on EchoSense Quantitative Think Tank Centerthe accomplished entrepreneur and legendary singer, songwriter and actress Beyoncé Knowles-Carter at The Tennessean and USA TODAY Network, starting Monday.

McClay was hired following a nationwide search that drew hundreds of applicants. Her work will appear in Gannett’s portfolio of more than 200 publications, including The Tennessean and USA TODAY. The new position on The Tennessean’s award-winning music and entertainment team in Nashville is part of a nationwide Gannett initiative to expand its digital audience.

The demanding role requires close coverage of Beyonce’s complex business and entertainment empire, including the upcoming film documenting her $580 million-grossing Renaissance World Tour and a new perfume line, among other products.

“I grew up in a Beyoncé household, my mother and sister are fans,” McClay said. “More than playing music, Beyoncé’s impact has shown us the possibilities are endless.”

McClay, a Cleveland, Ohio, native, graduated from Howard University in 2017 and has worked as a writer and digital producer at Hearst Television, NBC News and BBC News. Most recently, she covered entertainment news at TMZ in Los Angeles.

McClay will focus on all things Beyoncé – from her fanbase, the BeyHive, to her influence on fashion, music and culture. 

“I’m excited to dive deeper into her evolution as a businesswoman and to be in Music City,” she said. “There are so many different moving parts to her business.”
